Episco-Build begins in Mid-Hudson |
|
Fifteen Episcopal Churches in the Mid-Hudson region are partnering with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Newburgh to rehabilitate a house in the city of Newburgh, in a project they have named the Episco-Build. The Episco-Build steering committee has been meeting for several months with Habitat for Humanity to form a plan for the rehabilitation of a home. In addition to a $20,000 grant the Episco-Build has already received from the Trinity Wall Street Grants program, the participating parishes have planned a series of fundraising events to offset the substantial $40,000 cost of sponsoring a house. Several fundraising events and projects have already been completed, including a Lenten calendar project and the sixth annual walk for housing. To date, they have raised $6,700. On July 16, Holy Trinity Church, Inwood, will bring its “Raise the Roof” revue to Hudson Hall at Mount St. Mary College in Newburgh for a fundraising performance. The home rehabilitation will begin later this summer. On June 25, the Episco-Builders will gather after a day of work on their house for an onsite Hip-Hop Mass, brought to them by Trinity Church, Morrisania, and followed by a barbecue for celebrants, workers, the partner family and neighbors. Mid-Hudson parishes participating in the Episco-Build include St. Paul’s, Chester; Good Shepherd, Newburgh; Holy Innocents and St. Mark’s, Highland Falls and Fort Montgomery; St. Andrew’s, Walden; St. Ann’s, Washingtonville; St. John’s, Cornwall; St. John’s, Kingston; St. Mark’s, Chelsea; Christ Church, Marlboro; St. Thomas, New Windsor; St. Mary’s, Tuxedo; St. David’s, Highland Mills; Christ Church, Warwick; and Christ the King, Stone Ridge.
