Top left, Bishop Mark Sisk, far right, and the Very Rev. James Kowalski, Dean of the Cathedral, right, greeted His Holiness the Dalai Lama when he arrived at the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine on Saturday, September 20. The Dalai Lama was visiting New York City as part of a tour that included other stops in the United States. At the Cathedral, the Dalai Lama held a private teaching for members of the Tibetan community in the New York area. Thousands lined up hours in advance for the presentation. Before the presentation began, the Dalai Lama spoke to Bishop Sisk and Dean Kowalski, reminiscing about his previous visits to the Cathedral.
